Thursday, June 8, 2017: After about a two and a half hour delay at the Fort Lauderdale airport, we were finally airborne, arriving in the capital of Ecuador 4-1/2 hours later - or roughly 2:00 in the morning!

By the light of day, we were finally able to see our lodging in the town of Tababela, which is right next to the new Quito Airport, in a valley just east of Quito.

We spent the day of June 9th at the Airport Suites, and met and chatted with some dynamic, fascinating fellow travelers from all over the world. Had to set the alarm for 4 am (ugh!) the next morning to catch a 7:15 am flight to Manta, on the coast, so it was off to sleep early.

Luckily the clouds broke up somewhat so that we had a great view of the spectacular Andes Mountains.

A really great flight on the Colombian airline, Avianca.... about 50 minutes after takeoff, we landed in the city of Manta, on the coast in the province of Manabi.
